Rapid Test for Dengue NS1 Antigen

Dear colleagues,
The Microbiology Service of the Istituto di Medicina di Laboratorio EOLAB announces that, starting today, 22.07.2024, it is possible to prescribe the test for the Dengue virus NS1 antigen at the hospital sites in Lugano (Civico), Bellinzona, Mendrisio, and Locarno. The NS1 antigen is an early serological marker, detectable up to 7–8 days after symptom onset (details in the graph).

Since the sensitivity of the rapid test is still lower than that of a molecular test, any sample that tests non-reactive will be automatically confirmed with a specific PCR for Dengue.
