The institute

Istituto Pediatrico della Svizzera Italiana brings together the Departments, Services and Outpatient Clinics of the Pediatrics of the four Regional Hospitals (Lugano, Bellinzona, Mendrisio and Locarno) under a single responsibility for operational leadership.

Outpatient clinics

Specialized care

Clinically, the Institute guarantees-in close collaboration with pediatricians on the ground-a highly specialized and equal level of care for all children in Italian-speaking Switzerland, regardless of their place of residence. In areas where cantonal specialist expertise is insufficient to ensure adequate care, the Institute intensifies its existing privileged relationships with clinics and university specialists in Switzerland.

The Institute is headquartered in Bellinzona, where it manages the multidisciplinary basic and complex case histories of neonatology and pediatrics (Basic and Specialist Pediatrics Clinic), as well as pediatric surgery (Surgery and Orthopedics Clinic) and pediatric anesthesia case histories.

The Regional Hospitals of Lugano, Mendrisio and Locarno accommodate the Pediatric Emergency Services and the Departments for taking care of the more frequent and less complex neonatology and pediatrics cases.

Complex cases of social, behavioral and adolescent pediatrics are concentrated at Lugano Hospital. In Lugano, the Istituto Pediatrico della Svizzera Italiana collaborates with the pedopsychiatry service of the Cantonal Socio-Psychiatric Organization (OSC).
