Hospital organization
Dipartimento di Medicina interna EOC stands out, in addition to its three inpatient wards and various outpatient services (also present in the other sites), for being the EOC center for dermatology and allergology, this thanks to an important outpatient clinic and dedicated beds. In addition, through dedicated inpatient beds and the proximity between Servizio di Pneumologia EOC and thoracic surgery, an important focus of the hospital is placed on taking care of pulmonary diseases.
As for Dipartimento di Chirurgia EOC, the offerings in general and visceral surgery, orthopedic-traumatology and thoracic surgery are complemented by a urology department and the gynecology and obstetrics unit. The site has the cantonal mandate for complex obstetrics, and with more than 600 births per year, the obstetrics department at the site is the largest EOC birthplace.
One of the two sites of the Centro di Senologia della Svizzera Italiana EOC, an organization that promotes collaboration among different specialists so that breast diseases are taken care of in a synergistic and coordinated manner with the best state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and treatment, is located at the hospital. Dipartimento di Chirurgia EOC is equipped with the latest technology, both diagnostically and interventional. It features a Da Vinci Xi robot for minimal-invasive surgery.
Dipartimento di Area critica EOC consists of the Emergency Department, an operating block with 5 rooms, an endoscopy and ambulatory surgery unit, and an intensive care unit with 10 beds.
In general, the healthcare services offered are complementary to those provided by the other institutions that make up the multisite EOC hospital, thus ensuring one of the hallmarks of the Cantonal Hospital Authority: a multidisciplinary approach and integrated patient care Ospedale San Giovanni is thus, like all the other health facilities that make up the multisite hospital EOC, a point of access not only to the single site but to the entire EOC hospital structure and the specialties offered.
The hospital grounds also house the headquarters of both Istituto Oncologico della Svizzera Italiana and Istituto Pediatrico della Svizzera Italiana. L'Istituto Oncologico owns the research center, the cell therapy program, an outpatient clinic and two inpatient wards. Similarly, l'Istituto Pediatrico also has a newly opened internist-surgical outpatient clinic, the Neonatal and Pediatric Intermediate Care, two inpatient wards, the Pediatric Emergency Room and the Pediatric Day Hospital.
