General Information
The Pediatric Emergency Room is an interdisciplinary emergency department that cares for pediatric patients with both internist (e.g., acute infectious, respiratory, gastroenteric, neurological) and surgical problems .
- The pediatric emergency rooms in Bellinzona and Lugano are open 24/7.
- The pediatric emergency rooms in Locarno and Mendrisio are open daily from 8 am to 10 pm. Outside opening hours, consult the Pediatric Emergency Departments in Bellinzona and Lugano or the specialist telephone pickets of the Pediatric Institute for Locarno and Mendrisiotto.
- After a brief assessment of the child or adolescent's health status, a decision will be made as to how urgently he or she should be treated.
- Patients are not taken in according to the time of arrival, but according to the severity of their condition. Taking charge is then determined according to health criteria of the medical and nursing staff.
- Emergency cases cannot be planned, so it may happen that the Pediatric Emergency Room becomes quickly overloaded and, in this case, waiting times may be prolonged.
