EOC: part of a network of leading expertise

Numerous agreements have been signed by the EOC over the years in Ticino, the rest of Switzerland and abroad. These are valuable collaborations that allow it to be part of a national and international network of leading expertise.

International partners

European Institute of Oncology (IEO)
The EOC and the IEO entered into a clinical-scientific collaboration agreement in October 1996 with the aim of developing, within the IEO's area of medical oncology, innovative organizational and care models, clinical studies and scientific research with the goal of improving the treatment of human malignancies.

National Institute for the Study and Treatment of Cancer (INT)
The EOC and INT entered into an agreement on clinical-scientific collaboration in oncology in March 2001 under the "Montabone Project"; it provides for the establishment at the INT of a clinical pharmacology unit whose purpose is to develop the clinical and preclinical evaluation of new anticancer drugs.

Southern Europe New Drug Organization (SENDO).
SENDO was formed in 1999 by the Istituto Oncologico della Svizzera Italiana (IOSI) and three Milan-based institutes: the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri, the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, and the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia. Regional oncology research centers in Bergamo, Chieti and Barcelona later became members of SENDO. SENDO has become the third largest hub for preclinical and clinical development of new anticancer drugs in Europe.

University of Insubria
By agreement Feb. 21, 2006, the State of Canton Ticino, the EOC and the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Insubria entered into an agreement for cooperation in medical education.

Multimedica Holding SpA
The EOC and Multimedica SpA, Castellanza garrison, entered into a cooperation agreement for participation in the International Women's Hospital project.

Heilongjiang Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine
By agreement Nov. 27, 2006, the EOC and Heilongjiang Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine entered into an agreement for collaboration in the field of traditional Chinese medicine.

University Hospital of Basel
By agreement June 6, 2006, the University Hospital of Basel and the EOC entered into a collaboration agreement in the field of vascular surgery.

Les Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG)
By agreement April 19, 2007, Les Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG) and the EOC entered into an agreement establishing a partnership in the fields of medical care, nursing, teaching, research, clinical ethics and logistics.

Institut Central des Hôpitaux Valaisans
By agreement Oct. 2, 2006, the Institut central des hôpitaux valaisans and the EOC entered into a collaboration agreement on surveillance of surgical site infections.

Canton of Graubünden
The EOC and the Canton of Graubünden entered into an agreement for the hospitalization of patients domiciled in the Mesolcina-Calanca hospital region at the Ospedale Regionale di Bellinzona e Valli.

Helsana Group
The Helsana Group is the leading health and accident insurer in Switzerland. It offers its private and corporate clients comprehensive care in health and welfare as well as in cases of illness and accident.

The Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale and the Helsana Group have signed a partnership agreement. The two parties are thus embarking on a close and long-term cooperation. The aim of the cooperation is to develop joint projects, offer services and improve current procedures. The new cooperation, which falls under the label "key clinic management," represents a commitment to our common customers, namely patients and insured.

Helsana also collaborates with the REHA TICINO rehabilitation network. Formed through a strategic alliance between the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale and the Hildebrand Clinic, this network includes several institutions and services dealing with rehabilitation, to which hospital planning has assigned a mandate.

Università della Svizzera italiana di Lugano (USI)
By agreement June 15, 2005, the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) of Lugano and the EOC entered into a collaboration agreement for the provision of services and support in the field of scientific research and to establish the modalities of collaboration between the EOC and the USI-SUPSI research service.

Cantonal sociopsychiatric organization
The Cantonal Sociopsychiatric Organization (CSO) is a public institution under the Law on Sociopsychiatric Care (LASP) of February 2, 1999. The EOC and OSC have entered into collaborative agreements so as to make the best use of the resources of the two facilities, especially with timely collaboration in areas of common interest.

Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB)
The IRB, founded in 1997, aims to conduct basic research and teaching in biomedicine, particularly in the field of immunology. The institute collaborates with the EOC in translational research programs, particularly with IOSI, whose research laboratories are physically located within the IRB itself.

Malcantonese Hospital of Castelrotto
By agreement October 17, 2006, the EOC and Malcantonese Hospital in Castelrotto entered into a collaboration agreement in the field of inpatient respiratory rehabilitation.

Ars Medica Hospital Group
By agreement July 20, 2005, the EOC and Ars Medica Hospital Group Gravesano signed a collaboration agreement for the transfer of Ars Medica Group patients requiring postoperative musculoskeletal rehabilitation to the Clinica di Riabilitazione EOC, Novaggio.

The Ars Medica Hospital Group (GOAM) and IOSI signed an agreement in July 2007 promoting mutual collaboration, particularly in the area of diagnosis and treatment of oncology patients and accompanying diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic-trauma patients. The parties recognize each other's specific competencies, particularly the role as cantonal reference centers of the Radio-Oncology Service and the Nuclear Medicine Service and PET-CT Center, which are part of IOSI, as well as the role as a regional center of orthopedics (endoprothetic) for the Sottoceneri region of GOAM and as the private pole of stationary oncology in the Lugano area of the Sant'Anna Clinic in Sorengo.

Office of Invalidity Insurance
The Office of Invalidity Insurance (OAI) and the EOC entered into the agreement January 23, 2007, whereby the OAI agrees to send patients in need of musculoskeletal assessment to the Clinica di Riabilitazione EOC, Novaggio.

Hospice Ticino
In 2000, with the enactment of the Law on Home Care and Assistance (LACD), the Hospice Ticino Association was created, whose purpose is to coordinate and make uniform the hospice programs throughout the canton with regard to palliative home care in particular. These services, which are partly based in EOC institutions and also employ joint staff, have a privileged relationship with public hospitals that also facilitates the coordination and organization of care.

Vallemaggia Socio-Health Center
The Vallemaggia Socio-Health Center, established in 2002 following the conversion of the Cevio Area Hospital, manages, in Cevio, the home for the elderly, the convalescent stay with a high health content and a reception unit for disabled adults, and, in Someo, temporary stays; it also ensures the operational management of the home help service. The EOC provides the Center with medical supervision (including substitutions), management of the radiology laboratory, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

Biopolo Ticino Association
The Association, established on October 17, 2002, aims to promote activities and initiatives designed to foster the development of biotechnology, particularly through the transfer of scientific and technological research results and support for research and training. The EOC is a founding member of the Biopole.

Hildebrand Clinic
The Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale and the Hildebrand Clinic have a strategic partnership that gives rise to REHA TICINO, a network of expertise that coordinates sites and services dedicated to rehabilitation in Ticino. This public-private collaboration includes the Clinica di Riabilitazione EOC and the Hildebrand Clinic.

Institute of Oncology Research (IOR).
EOC collaborates with the Istituto Oncologico di Ricerca in the area of oncology research. The Istituto Oncologico della Svizzera Italiana (IOSI) EOC works closely with the IOR to develop translational research projects aimed at transferring scientific discoveries from basic research to clinical practice, thus improving oncology therapies.
