Professional Practice Model

The Area has decided to adopt Professional Practice Models for the various professions, starting with the development of one for the nursing profession. The PPM is a theoretical and operational framework that guides practice within a healthcare organization. This model represents the values, beliefs, and principles that guide the work of various professionals.

Acting in accordance with a guiding framework

Inspired by the Magnet® concept, the Division has decided to develop a Professional Nursing Model (PPM) that values the role of nurses, promotes excellence in clinical practice, and improves the quality of care. This approach aims to create a work environment that fosters professional growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the well-being of healthcare professionals, with the ultimate goal of ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care. Through a participatory and collaborative process that actively involved nurses at all levels, the need emerged to integrate and adopt a new EOC nursing care model.

The Professional Nursing Model aims to clarify, both within and outside the EOC, how nurses work, how they collaborate with other professionals, how they develop professionally, what their professional values are, and how they apply their competencies in various roles and contexts. The EOC Professional Nursing Model is structured around six main elements: Leadership, work climate and environment, autonomy and collaboration, research and innovation, development and recognition, and care outcomes; it therefore represents an opportunity to strengthen and motivate nurses, enabling them to identify, share, and actively promote exemplary professional practices.

The Nursing Care Model, an important part of the professional model, places the individual with a health problem, their family, and the relationship with the nurse providing care at the center. It serves as a guide for nursing practice in clinical settings. It defines the goals of nursing care and the methods for addressing and managing every clinical situation for which the nurse is responsible. The development of the EOC Nursing Care Model involved not only the active participation of nurses but also patients, as the primary recipients of nursing care.
