Spiritual care and support

An inpatient may feel the need to have support from a religious person as well as having the need to have a word with someone. There are spiritual care and volunteer services within the EOC facilities.

Spiritual care

Spiritual care

Patients can request spiritual care services from the chaplain or Catholic priest who cooperates with the EOC facilities and officiates celebrations at the prayer spaces there.

Of course, patients can also involve a religious of their free choice. Should patients wish to receive spiritual assistance from a specific representative of a religion or religious denomination, but do not have a contact name, they can directly contact the departmental staff, which has a list with the various contact information of the religious active in the area.

Support

Volunteering

EOC facilities can also rely on the valuable resources of volunteers, who provide their services free of charge to offer help or keep company with patients who wish to do so. Volunteers wear a tunic and identification badge that distinguish them from the nursing staff and other service workers and qualify them as volunteers licensed by the hospital to come into contact with patients. Volunteers providing services to the EOC are coordinated by reference persons and act consistently with specific rules and modalities. These people are also subject to professional confidentiality and are required to respect and ensure the privacy of patients.

Do you have availability of free time? Do you wish to become a volunteer?
Make contact with the hospital of your choice. You will be summoned to an exploratory interview to learn about your motivation and assess your suitability: listening skills, sense of responsibility, balance, discretion, strong inclination to share social and institutional values. He may do a trial period, first alongside an already active volunteer and later accompanied by an experienced volunteer. After this introductory phase, he may join the group according to his time availability.

Self Help

EOC has joined Auto Aiuto Ticino and promotes the creation and dissemination of self-help groups.
These groups, which arise at the initiative of people confronted with the same health problem and wishing to share their experiences, support each other and organize moments of sharing and fun, which strengthen bonds and mutual support.

The groups are not therapeutic groups and the presence of specialists at them is not necessary.
Groups that are formed within EOC, however, can count on the support of our specialists.

Groups that collaborate with EOC
  • Senology - "Short-haired Anna": the group is dedicated to breast cancer patients before the age of 50.
