Pediatric and neonatal intermediate care
Intermediate care aims to take care of infants (full-term and premature from 32 weeks' gestation or 30 if born overseas), as well as children up to age 16, who have conditions requiring sub-intensive care.
Patient care
Pediatric and neonatal intermediate care is for infants and children who, while not requiring intensive care, still need to be supported by a higher level of care than is normally provided in a regular inpatient ward.
The medical-nursing level of care ensures prompt recognition of criticality and to provide for the immediate implementation of all those maneuvers aimed at stabilizing the infant and child and their eventual safe transfer to the university clinic with which treatment and transfer protocols are shared. Patient care includes:
- taking care of neonatological and pediatric emergencies;
- noninvasive respiratory support (e.g., high-flow, traditional CPAP and helmet-CPAP);
- continuous hemodynamic and respiratory monitoring;
- stabilization and transfer to academic clinics.
