Pediatric hemato-oncology

Hematology:

• Blood abnormalities present from birth, affecting red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets: thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and coagulation disorders.
• Acute acquired situations: thrombocytopenias, thrombosis/embolism, transfusion therapy.

Oncology:

• All major oncological diseases with regard to drug therapy, outside of autologous and/or allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
• In collaboration with Kinderspital Zurich and other national centers we manage surgical and radiation therapy.
• Long-term follow-up until adulthood.

• Acute lymphoblastic leukemias.
• Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.
• Brain tumors.
• Tumors of the adrenals.
• Renal tumors.
• Hepatic tumors.
• Bone tumors.
• Tumors of bone tissue.
• Soft tissue tumors.
• Germ cell and gonadal tumors.
• Histiocytosis.
• Screening for syndromes with predisposition to cancer.

Collaborations

In the field of pediatric oncology, the service is integrated into the network of Swiss clinics licensed to treat pediatric cancers, in close collaboration with all Swiss university centers, and in particular with the Kinderspital in Zurich. Most conventional chemotherapies are performed, and there is active participation in international therapy protocols.

For surgical aspects and special therapies, such as stem cell transplantation, the point of reference is Kinderspital Zurich.
