The Swiss Cancer Institute offers oncology consultations for a second opinion by clinical experts.

What the consultation for a second oncology opinion includes

High-quality consultations are offered. A summary of medical history and latest medical and diagnostic reports is required for good preparation of the consultation.

  • Second opinion in the presence of the patient or via Zoom (or similar systems): CHF 900.
  • Second opinion on study and analysis of clinical records: CHF 450.
  • Follow-up second opinion: CHF 400.
  • Additional Medical Second Opinion: CHF 250 (additional specialist consultation, subject to patient consent, only in conjunction with a second opinion option mentioned above).

The second-opinion consultation includes: studying the material provided, taking the patient's medical history, examining the patient (when present), studying the iconographic material (diagnostic tests), and writing a written summary to be taken with him/her at the end of the consultation or sent to the patient electronically in the following days. Duration is approximately 1 hour.

Consultations are organized at each site of the Oncology Institute of Italian Switzerland, but they are generally concentrated at the Regional Hospital of Bellinzona and the Regional Hospital of Lugano and cover:

  • lymphomas;
  • leukemias;
  • experimental therapies;
  • gynecological tumors;
  • thyroid tumors;
  • brain tumors;
  • breast carcinoma;
  • gastro-intestinal tumors;
  • urogenital tumors.

From the date of receipt of the complete dossier (including any attachments and/or paperwork) and after payment for the request, the hospital undertakes to give an appointment, within 10 working days. Should the response be delayed beyond 10 days or should the hospital be unable to take up the request, the amount paid will be refunded.
