The genito-urinary tumours unit involves the various professionals within the EOC (urologists, radiologists, nuclear physicians, radiation oncologists and oncologists) involved in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular tumours.
Our main activities consist of our weekly multidisciplinary discussions of new or difficult cases (tumour board). In addition, joint teaching activities take place. The unit also promotes studies for the development and application of new drugs and treatment strategies, in particular radiotherapy, in national and international studies.
In specific, prostate cancer, is the neoplasm with the highest incidence in men and the third leading cause of death from cancer in Ticino. We coordinate translational research programmes and design hypotheses and projects by analysing clinical information from more than 1000 patients, treated for this disease in the last 15 years.
The clinical group collaborates with the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) in Bellinzona, to develop common research strategies that can be taken from the patient to the laboratory and vice versa.
