Blood diseases Back

The Haematology Service deals with blood diseases, where the patient with a haematological disease is placed at the centre of our considerations. Our activity is divided into a purely diagnostic laboratory (making the correct diagnosis), a clinic (investigations and treatment of patients with haematological diseases), and a combined research clinic and laboratory (development and refinement of new therapies). The haematology service is the only one in Ticino able to provide a global haematological diagnostic picture, integrating all the techniques currently available in the most advanced centres. In addition, the service offers clinical studies for the majority of haematological diseases.

Our Staff
The haematology service is staffed by doctors, biologists, laboratory technicians and a secretariat.

Collaborations
In order to be able to give a definitive diagnosis, it is also important to collaborate closely with other agencies, such as the Cantonal Institute of Pathology, for the evaluation of bone marrow or lymph node biopsies (with weekly discussion of all histological preparations), EOLAB (Department of Laboratory Medicine, the Transfusion Service or other university laboratories such as the Laboratory for Molecular Diagnostics at the Inselspital University Hospital in Bern, or the Laboratory of Haematology at the University Hospital of Basel), with whom we collaborate to perform molecular biology analyses or specific coagulation parameters.
