The Centro Cantonale di Fertilità (Cantonal Fertility Centre) is part of the La Carità Regional Hospital and is located by the hospital in Locarno. The building is modern, the staff highly qualified, the technology advanced and a commitment to on-going improvement characterise the quality of care throughout the facility. The Centre is part of the Department of Gynaecological Endocrinology and has:
- 1 waiting room;
- 1 medical secretariat;
- 2 surgeries;
- 1 pick-up and transfer area;
- 1 ultrasound room;
- 1 office and counselling area;
- 2 laboratories;
- 1 room for the collection of seminal fluids;
- 1 sample room.
All staff at the Centre work to create a climate in which good relationships are formed thus allowing couples to remember their "stay" in the Centre as a positive human experience.
Our team consists of highly qualified colleagues, members of the Swiss Society for Reproductive Medicine (SGRM) and members of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
Since 1991, the chief physician of the Centre has been Dr. med. Jürg Stamm, gynaecologist and obstetrician, specialising in gynaecological endocrinology and the medicine of human reproduction.
Dr. med. Marco Buttarelli M.D., FMH surgeon specializing in gynaecology and obstetrics, has been working with the Locarno Regional Hospital’s Fertility Centre since January 2010 and assumed the role of Department Head from January 2011.
The Reproduction Biology Laboratory of the Fertility Centre is a part of the Department of Laboratory Medicine of the cantonal hospital organisation (EOLAB).
All of its activities in andrology and assisted reproduction therapy are carried out in an environment accredited to ISO 17025.
The Laboratory Director is Dr.ssa Alessandra Fusconi, ESHRE Senior Clinical Embryologist, specialised in applied genetics, under whose supervision work:
- Sandra Crespi, laboratory technician specializing in MAP
- Paola Coccia-D’Ippolito, laboratory technician specializing in MAP
- Raffaella Bottacchi-Stoto, ESHRE Clinical Embryologist, graduate in biological sciences and reproductive biotechnology
Dr. Giovanni Micioni, therapeutic psychologist sexologist has worked in the Centre for more that 20 years, specialising in the psychological, sexual and social aspects of human infertility.
The individuals and couples are accompanied and emotionally supported during the various phases of the assisted procreation treatments.
The secretaries of the CFC, Elisabeth Gerosa, Manuela Mordasini and Andelka Antic Kalas, are always available and give important help to patients who want to organise their proposed treatment in the best way possible.
In order to guarantee the best care possible, the Centre works together with an Emergency service and a department for Gynaecology and Obstetrics. In addition, the La Carità hospital, offers a department for intensive care and state-of-the-art operating rooms.
