Service description
The haematology service is concerned with blood diseases.
Its activities are divided into two parts: a diagnostic one in the laboratory (morphological analysis with microscope, flow cytometry, cytogenetic) and a clinical part, i.e. consultation for the patient. The service of haematology is the only service in Ticino which is able to give a complete haematological diagnosis by utilising the most advanced methods. Besides, it deals with the processing, freezing and storage of stem cells for autologous transplantation.
Our team
The haematology service consists of medical team, laboratory technicians and a secretary.
Collaborations
In order to produce a final diagnosis the service cooperates with other institutions, for example Cantonal Institute of Pathology, especially when dealing with bone marrow or lymph nodes biopsies (with weekly feedback on all the histological preparations). Besides, when working on the analysis of molecular biology or on the specific parameters of coagulation, it collaborates with some university laboratories, for example: Laboratory of Molecular Diagnostics of the Inselspital University Hospital of Berne and the Haematology Laboratory of the University Hospital of Basel.
